SOS
save our spirit
We have been given the news that Spirit is to be sold as Hillingdon Partnership Trust who own her is in need of funds.
This is a terrible and tragic blow to us, and all those who, over the last 20 years have steered for so many 1000s of people.
However, the biggest losers will be those, who have restricted mobility, and have had so many enjoyable days on the canal viewing the countryside.
The nursing homes that have used us regularly in the past, the children in wheelchairs who so love the opportunity to get out of their homes and steer a boat.
In these days of cut backs, it seems that those who are less able to fend for themselves, face the severest loss.
We must save Spirit, so therefore, we are launching our SOS campaign “Save Our Spirit”.
We need to raise £30,000 to keep her.
We have already started raising funds, with a kick off of £500.00, from our very successful fun day. We gave free boat trips from the Coy Carp, and had a collection bucket on board, and the people were very generous. We also held a lock ransom (asking for donations for boats going through the lock that we worked for them.), a raffle, name the teddy bear, bric-a-brac stalls etc. The public showed great interest in us. Many locals turned up after seeing us at the Harefield Fete, and we were asked when we were going to do it again.
.
We will be at the Slough Festival 10th & 11th September
Do come along to support us!!!!!!!!!!!!
